Common Traffic Violations

Here are some of the most common traffic violations:
  • Speeding
  • Running a red light
  • Not signaling
  • Crossing the median
  • Driving in car pool lane
  • Not stopping for school bus
  • Not stopping for pedestrians
  • Not using seat belt
  • Driving on shoulder
  • Passing in a no passing zone
  • Drunk driving
  • Reckless driving
  • Driving without a license, insurance, or registration
             Here is a sampling of how many points you might get on your license. (This might vary on where you live). The more points, the worse driving record. Too many points can result in a suspended license and is strongly related to insurance premiums.

 

Six Points

  • Felony with a motor vehicle, manslaughter, etc...
  • Operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Failing to stop at an accident
  • Evading a police officer
  • Driving while intoxicated or influence of drugs
  • Reckless driving


Four Points

  • Drag racing
  • Impaired driving
  • Any blood-alcohol level in a driver under 21 years old
  • Sixteen miles per hour or more over the legal speed limit
  • Failure to yield to an emergency vehicle


Three Points

  • Careless driving
  • Eleven to fifteen miles per hour over the legal speed limit
  • Failure to stop for a school bus or disobeying a school crossing guard


Two Points

  • Speeding by less than 10mph over the speed limit
  • Refusal of breath test for alcohol content by a driver under 21
